Loading ...September 10th marks the first day of Daybreak OC, the new two-hour weekday-morning news program that caters strictly to Orange County residents. While many who live in Orange County are skeptical about the program, I have been looking forward to it since May, when I originally blogged about it.
I think it’s high time that Orange County, with an estimated population of over 3 million people, has its own real daily local news program. KOCE-TV’s Real Orange, an OC nightly news show, has been airing for approximately 10 years. While Real Orange (Channel 10) does address some news items, it has more of a talk-show feel, and runs toward community issues, with an emphasis on business and politics rather than current events. Real Orange is definitely not a coverage-on-the-spot type of program, but it is a source for topical information within greater OC.
Daybreak OC is an OC Register / KDOC-TV venture with anchors Nancy Aziz and Pete Weitzner. I love that it’s broadcast in HD. Good call KDOC!
Grab a cup of coffee, flip to Channel 12 and check it out. If you like it, let KDOC know. If you don’t, tell them how the show can be improved. We’ve finally got another shot at this! Hopefully this program will be what we’ve all been waiting for. I’ll be watching this week to see how they do.
Interestingly enough, I came across another bit of information as I was writing this post. It appears based on a September 5th press release from KOCE-TV that KOCE, Chapman University, the Orange County Register, University of California at Irvine, Cal-Trans, the Orange County Department of Education, Cox Communications & Time Warner are partnering together to produce a 24/7 Orange County News program on the future OC Channel. The Orange County Register indicates that the intention of the two stations is not to compete, but rather, to supplement each other. I think this is even better news.
