In light of concerns over the recently-announced, county-wide water crisis, many Rancho Santa Margarita residents have been thinking more about their water usage. Work was completed last weekend for the nearly week-long scheduled maintenance at Diemer Water Treatment Plant in Yorba Linda. Approximately 95% of South Orange County’s water is distributed through this plant.
Fortunately Santa Margarita Water District maintains the ability to store approximately 240 million gallons of water for its 150,000-plus residence and business customers. The District’s ongoing planning resulted in no loss of service during this temporary situation. With the immediate crisis behind us, it is important for Rancho Santa Margarita residents to continue to focus their efforts on water conservation.
This Saturday, May 5th from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Santa Margarita Water District will host the 7th Annual Fiesta de Agua Water Awareness Family Day at the district office in Las Flores. The event includes food, educational activities, and tours. As an added benefit, water district experts will provide personalized home water audits at no charge. This will allow members of the community to see if there are areas where they can cut back on water usage and reduce their bill.
Children will be delighted with performances by the Mad Scientist and will be able to participate in flower-pot painting and other educational crafts. Come hungry…barbecued hot dogs, snow cones and popcorn are on the house.
