nullRancho Santa Margarita students enjoy some of the finest public schools in the nation. But public school is not for everyone and a number of RSM parents, for a myriad of reasons, find themselves looking for a quality private school education for their child.

Mission Hills Christian School is one of a handful of private schools serving the needs of elementary and middle school students in the community of Rancho Santa Margarita and surrounding areas. It is a school I know well. I have been there practically every school day since my oldest son’s first day of Jr. Kindergarten in 1993.

I have two children who attended Mission Hills Christian School from Kindergarten through 8th grade and I have one child still in attendance. I can tell you unequivocally that my decision to send my children to Mission Hills Christian School was one of the smartest parenting decisions that I’ve made.

One of the things I love about Mission Hills Christian School is the implementation of their philosophy of partnering with parents to enhance each student’s educational, personal and spiritual growth. Partnering with parents is not a new idea by any means, but the staff at Mission Hills Christian School is committed to making sure that communication is a two-way street for both parents and teachers.

Mission Hills Christian School staff and teachers – every last one of them – demonstrate their commitment to providing a top-notch educational program as well as providing a nurturing environment where students are encouraged to grow personally, socially and spiritually. My two youngest children were on the “shy” side in their early childhood. MHCS provided encouragement and positive reinforcement in social settings and repeated exposure to leadership opportunities. As a result my children have blossomed and grown into strong and secure individuals. No more shyness.

Of my three children, my firstborn was probably my biggest challenge academically. His struggle with school began on Day One of Jr. Kindergarten. He is one of those children who could have easily been lost in a public school setting. Thanks to the dedication of the entire staff at Mission Hills – he wasn’t. Further, when I was ready to tear my hair out over missing assignments or low test scores, the teachers encouraged me. When I was in tears, the staff prayed with me. Most importantly though, they never gave up and let him slip through the cracks. He graduated from high school two years ago and is currently serving in the Marines in avionics.

You fortunate parents with cookie-cutter, standard-learning kids don’t know how great you’ve got it. Having a child who is an out-of-the-box learner presents all kinds of challenges that can only be understood by those who have already had to face these challenges. I had two of these children; one at one end of the spectrum and one at the other.

My middle child consistently scored several years above her grade level on SATs and she’s got an incredibly high I.Q. score. Socially, however, she was younger and less mature than the majority of her classmates. At MHCS she was given a modified curriculum which kept her engaged academically at grade level while allowing her time to mature in other areas. The staff recognized that early advancement in academics was not the solution for this child.

Academically Mission Hills Christian School is a powerhouse. MHCS is accredited by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. To review MHCS SAT-10 & OLSAT test scores click here. If you would like to compare these scores to standardized test scores to local regional and public schools click here and you can search results by entering in the school or district name.

In addition to strong curriculum and academics, Mission Hills Christian School emphasizes learning in conjunction with modern technology. The Beyond Technology program emphasizes all aspects of computer integration and goes far beyond the average “computer lab” basics offered by many schools. Students learn basic operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet and databases applications, multimedia, graphics, and PowerPoint presentations. The administration is also working on implementing a laptop program in the near future.

If you are considering a private school education for your child, be sure to speak with the admissions office. Selecting a private school is a big decision and finding the best fit for your child is a must. For my family Mission Hills Christian School is the answer and our blessing.

Regarding Mission Hills Christian School, my own personal experiences have been truly rewarding! I have two children currently attending in the 6th and 4th grade and they have been at MHCC from junior kindergarten. The friendships they share, the education they have received AND the warm loving Christian environment that exists for them to grow in has postively shaped my children’s developement. Thank you for mentioning this wonderful school on this website!

Kelly, I really liked the way you wrote about the school, especially since I have been a part of the school community for many years. You also covered the rest of RSM very well. I have realy enjoyed what you said about Ranch House Meats and Super Suppers….both excellent shops to get great dinners.
