nullThere are few things more important to parents than knowing that their child’s health care concerns are being handled by an expert pediatrician. Fortunately Rancho Santa Margarita residents have convenient access to one of the best pediatric groups in Southern California. South Orange County Pediatric Association has been providing pediatric services in South Orange County since 1977. There are eleven board certified members at locations in Rancho Santa Margarita, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills, Ladera Ranch and Talega.

My first visit to South Orange County Pediatrics was in 1995. My infant son had a fever and was extremely congested. We had just switched insurance carriers and after a recommendation from my sister-in-law, I had chosen Dr. Michael A. Weiss as my children’s primary care physician.

I called to schedule a same-day sick child appointment on a Monday morning in the middle of flu season, and although they were completely booked for the day, they somehow managed to fit us in. The waiting room was packed and we settled in for the long haul. I took the time to read several pamphlets and articles about childhood illnesses, health, immunizations, safety issues and parenting strategies. There was a wealth of information.

One of the things I noticed immediately was that although the front office staff was extremely busy, they were very friendly and efficient. They also made me aware of waiting time and were extremely apologetic. I noted that there were both “sick” and “well” entrances - something that our prior pediatrician had not implemented.

Our wait was about 30 minutes which was not long considering the number of sick children that day. Dr. Weiss introduced himself and personally welcomed us to SOCPA. He examined my son and determined that his illness was most likely viral in nature and sent me home with clear instructions, a rough idea of what to expect and to watch out for, the after hours contact numbers and a renewed peace of mind. I knew that I had found a wonderful pediatrician.

That was the first of many visits to South Orange County Pediatric Association. My children, who are in relatively good health, have been seen for everything from growing pains to cactus quill removal. We have been seen by most of the pediatricians and nurse practitioners on staff at one point or another. I like the flexibility of being able to see another staff doctor or to specifically request Dr. Weiss. When it comes to the health of my children I like the power of choice.

No matter which SOCPA healthcare provider that we have seen we have always been received with the utmost professionalism. The staff has always made every effort to secure last-minute appointments and to put a rush on referrals.

The qualities that I find most notable about Dr. Weiss are:
• His genuine concern for each child and that child’s health concerns
• His ability to accurately diagnose a problem
• His clear communication of the diagnosis and the recommended course of treatment
• His willingness to listen to my input and my insights and to consider them in his evaluation
• I’ve never felt that he’s rushing to get to the next patient
• He won’t hesitate to refer out when indicated
• He speaks to children and encourages their involvement in their own health and safety
• He speaks both as a concerned parent and as a pediatrician

Other information about Dr. Michael A. Weiss:
