Rancho Santa Margarita Skate Park 5
The Rancho Santa Margarita Skate Park is located at Canada Vista Park to the east of Antonio Parkway just south of Tijeras Creek
. The skate park, which opened in 2005, provides a venue for kids of all ages, and even a few adults, to master their skating techniques and to have some fun.

The park’s designer, Purkiss Rose, has designed numerous southland area skate parks, including the #3-rated park in Laguna Niguel. Click here for a complete list of Purkiss Rose Skate Parks.

I have visited the park on a number of occasions and each time I have seen scores of younger kids accompanied by their parents as well as a handful each of adolescents and teens.
On the days of my visits all ages seemed to be respectful of each other: younger kids trying to stay out of the way of the older ones and older ones making an effort to skate around, not over, the younger ones. I have heard from some parents that there is an occasional problem with the behavior and/or language of the older teens, but this is definitely more prevalent when parents are not present and able to cite the park rules which prohibit “profanity, ” “bad behavior,” and “recklessness.”

SoCalSkateparks.com
writes a brutal review of the park, citing poor design and construction
and even going as far as saying, “The Rancho Santa Margarita Skatepark is a fine example of a skatepark gone wrong!” It’s important to consider though that SoCalSkatepark.com is reporting from the perspective of competition-level boarders, not the general public for which the skate park was designed. Beginner and intermediate boarders will find plenty of challenging features and will find that the park is a great place to work on basics skills or more difficult stunts. The same post from SoCalSkatepark.com notes that visitors to their website rate the park a 3 out of 4 stars.

Rancho Santa Margarita Skate Park 9 Foot Pool
The Skate Park features a full-sized pool with a 9’ maximum depth and 5’ minimum
. Additional features include stairs, ledges, rails and the “volcano.” There is a covered area with seating for onlookers. Restrooms are located near the athletic fields.

Rancho Santa Margarita Covered Cabana Area
The park is open every day from sun-up to sun-down and may be used by skateboarders and in-line skaters
. No scooters allowed. Park rules require all users to wear protective gear including a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads. A complete list of rules is available on the city’s website. Failure to comply with these can result in the violator being cited by the City of Rancho Santa Margarita.
