Tonight I came across one of my first blog posts about Rancho Santa Margarita. The post tells about how I felt when I first moved to Rancho Santa Margarita, and why I decided that Rancho Santa Margarita was the place where I wanted to raise my family. I wrote the post before I created RSM Lifestyles as a kind of practice post, so it was never really published, nor read by anyone who reads Rancho Santa Margarita Lifestyles.
I think it’s important to get a feel for an area before you find yourself up to your ears in moving boxes. By that time it’s too late if you decide you don’t like the feel of it. I think many people have a misconception of Orange County, CA that is largely due to television shows such “The OC,” “Laguna Beach,” and “The Real Housewives of Orange County.”
There are a certain percentage of RSM residents who may fit the stereotypical profile of the highly affluent, perfectly shaped, gloriously-tanned, not-a-wrinkle-on that 40?-year-old face-thank-you-Dr. Nip/Tuck. That’s not the norm though. Its the exception.
If you’ve lived in South Orange County long enough, you’ve been exposed to enough of the attitude that you’ve likely developed a tolerance for it. Those coming into the community, especially those from much less pretentious places, will probably have an acute reaction the first few times they encounter an OC attitude. I’ll admit it can be a little nauseating at times. But, rest assured. You’ll notice it less and less. Just have yourself a good laugh and be ever-so-grateful that you’re not the one who’s that self-absorbed.
I would imagine that given the state of the current housing market in Orange County that attitudes will become more demure. It’s hard to play the entitled one when you’re in the middle of a short sale or a foreclosure.
